District Registration & Immunization Resources

We encourage you to visit the district’s Registration and Immunization web page to access our latest registration packet, registration related information, and immunization requirements for the school year.

Admission Requirements

We require the parent, guardian, or surrogate of each new student to produce the following:

  • New Students - If your child is a new student, you must provide the last report card or withdrawal slip from his/her previous school, proof of residency (rent or lease receipts, receipts for utility payments), immunization record, and a certified copy of the child's birth certificate.
  • Non-Resident Students - The district may admit children who do not reside in the district upon such terms as it prescribes (administrative permission). A pupil who enters a school shall present a properly executed withdrawal form if such pupil previously attended another school in this state. Please visit our Open Enrollment page to find answers to any questions you may have regarding this subject.

School Boundaries

  • Students must live within the following boundaries to register at Hurley Ranch Elementary School: South of 83rd Ave. to South 99th Ave. between Lower Buckeye and Broadway.


  • We require immunization records for attendance of any child in any district school. As of January 1, 1992, schools are required to forbid attendance of (suspend) any student who is not meeting the requirements for immunization or exemption from immunization and shall suspend such student pursuant to A.R.S. 15-871-874. We will notify parents of any immunizations that their child may need.
  • Children who have received the necessary immunizations and booster doses in the primary grades will not require booster immunizations until they reach the junior high school age.
  • Beginning with the 2005-2006 school year, students entering childcare, preschool, kindergarten, 1st grade, and 7th grade will be required to have proof of receiving the Varicella (chickenpox) shot/immunization, or provide a history of having had the Varicella (chickenpox) disease.

Emergency Contact Information

  • For the safety of your child, it is necessary that you complete ALL the information we requested on the emergency Information form in your registration packet in full as it applies to your child.
  • All information is confidential and protected by the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act.
  • When completing the form, all phone numbers must include the area code.
  • Should any information change during the course of the year, you must update your information immediately by contacting the school.

Attendance and Absence Policies

  • It is crucial for children to be on time to school and to attend daily.
  • You may request homework after the third day of absence. ABSENCES MUST BE VERIFIED. Every effort will be made to determine why your child is absent.
  • Please help us to keep your children safe by reporting your child's absence promptly.

Absence Line

  • Whenever your child does not attend school, please call the attendance line at (623) 478-5104 by 9:00 a.m. State the name of the absent student, who is making the call, the reason for the absence. Be specific about the reason of the absence such as sore throat, asthma, fever, doctor/dentist appointment, personal, etc.

State Truancy Program

  • Court Unified Truancy Suppression (C.U.T.S): School attendance is not only a good habit; state law requires it. Arizona State Law (15-802.A, 15-803.E) requires every person who has custody of a child between the ages of six and sixteen years shall make sure the child attends school for the full time school is in session unless unable to attend due to illness or another legitimate reason.

Student Drop Off

  • We ask that parents drop off students no earlier than 8:00 a.m. and ask that students report directly to their classroom. The principal must clear any change in arrival time.

Student Check Out

  • Occasionally, parents may need to take their child home before the usual dismissal time. Parents must get office permission before taking a child out of class. Parents must sign children out from the office prior to their release from the classroom.
  • Teachers will not release students unless the office contacts them to release a student. As I'm sure everyone knows, this is a safety precaution to ensure that no unauthorized person may take a child. The student will not be allowed to walk home under any circumstances.
  • We will not release any student from school to any person other than the parent or legal guardian unless the school has positive proof that the parent having custody or legal guardianship has given permission for the release. In the event parents are legally separated, the school shall release the student only with the consent of the parent who has custody.


  • Any unexcused absences (truancy) may result in legal actions pursuant to the Arizona Revised Statutes 15-803.

School tax credits
  • In 1999 the Arizona State Legislature passed a bill allowing taxpayers to contribute up to $400 per calendar year to a public school and receive a state income tax credit for the full amount. The tax credit is available to all taxpayers regardless of whether or not they have a child enrolled in the school.
  • To claim the tax credit, taxpayers must contribute to an extracurricular activity or character education program. Contributions that are eligible for a tax credit go directly to the schools, not to the state. You may designate a specific activity for your contribution or ask that it be credited to the "general extracurricular fund" at the school.
  • To learn whether this contribution will benefit you, please contact your financial or tax advisor. Please call the school office or visit the Union Elementary School District website to obtain a tax credit donation form.
Student agendas
  • Grades 2nd-7th receive a student agenda on the first day of school, and we ask that parents check it daily.
  • The teacher will use this format to communicate with parents.
  • The parents must sign the student agenda each evening, and students must bring it back to school each day. Our student agendas are a critical part of our organizational structure and are not an option.
Dress code and expectations

Dress Code

  • We expect all of our students to dress in the proper standard school attire. We know that our students' parents will ensure that their students comply with the dress code. Dress code colors for Hurley Ranch are the following:

    • Shirt top colors for boys and girls are:

      • red, burgundy, baby blue, navy blue, white, or hunter green
    • Pants, shorts, skirt, and skort bottom colors for boys and girls:
      • khaki, black, or navy blue
    • Shoes:
      • For safety reasons, we encourage students to wear closed-toe shoes.
      • We also encourage students to wear shoes appropriate for physical education classes which may include, but are not limited to, tennis shoes.
  • We may have dress code variations on school days designated for special activities, but which may include, but are not limited to, spirit days or dress down days.

Expectations for Behavior

  • There are items that do not contribute to our school programs that we do not allow. Examples are: iPods, iPad, MP3s, any type of cellular phone, electronic games, permanent markers, toys from home, skates, or wheeled shoes.
School Meals


  • We offer all children breakfast in the classroom each morning.


  • Visit our School Lunch Programs page on the district site to get all the details on pricing, how to pay, and current school menus.


  • We ask that no student bring food to school other than a packaged lunch. This includes, but is not limited to: soda, chips, candy, gum, and other snack foods. Please help us in this regard, because we will confiscate any such foods, and we will not return it.

  • One exception is if a teacher requests snacks for the entire class; we will allow those.

Parent Teacher Organization

The Hurley Ranch Elementary Parent Teacher Organization offers many opportunities to support our school and community. We are very grateful to have parents who want to remain informed and are also very involved in their children's education. We want to thank all of our parents currently involved in PTO. We understand you are taking time out of your busy lives to organize activities and fundraising events for our school. Thank you for your continued support and helping ensure your children get the best education possible.

We invite all interested parents to join PTO. Education is a team effort. It involves participation from not only the students and teachers, but also from the parents and community members. Please check back often for meeting time and dates. We will also post information regarding PTO activities and fundraising events. We are looking forward to an exciting school year!
